Given the ever-growing artisan scene in the Hudson Valley, it was important to Reich and Baron that a majority of the decor and details were locally sourced. The light fixtures in the common areas and the restaurant are by Materia Designs, and for the artwork and mirrors, the owners commissioned Jenny Wonderling of Nectar. Luxe accents, like velvet, gold, and marble, are juxtaposed against vintage Persian rugs and reclaimed wood floors featuring a water-based finish that allows the material's natural color to shine through. "From a design perspective, the idea was to have a lot of classic elements but also bring in a lot of contemporary elements as well. I separated the rooms from the common areas," Reich says. Starting at $275 a night, "the rooms, from the furniture to the colors, are very subtle and light and when you're in the rooms you feel a sense of tranquility." "In the 2000s we went through a super-mod, minimalistic design phase, and I think in post-2010, there's this trend of going back to traditional elements," Reich, whose own firm, Akiva Reich & Co., was responsible for the renovations, says.

Since then, the hotel has broken in just perfectly – and even made a name for itself as the The Americas’ Most Romantic Retreat by World Boutique Hotel Awards. Centrally located in Mid-Hudson Valley, there are a number of quaint towns that neighbor Hasbrouck House, while the larger communities of Kingston and Woodstock are only a short drive away. The staff puts a lot of value in the property’s rich heritage and position in the Hudson Valley region, highlighting all that the area has to offer by partnering with local makers on its food, drink, + more. Like other buildings in Stone Ridge, New York, the historic Hudson Valley property features stunning stonework, not to mention reclaimed wood floors and expansive grounds—including a 55-foot pool built in 1923. Walking the pretty, Pennsylvania bluestone-laid path into the main building at Hasbrouck House feels more like coming home than checking into a hotel. The Heritage Twin room is the perfect "friend suite" as it's the only room in the Hasbrouck House with two twin beds!

Executive Chef Jesse Frederick has lived and worked as a chef in the Hudson Valley for the majority of his culinary career, and brings with him a strong knowledge of local farms and food systems as well as a deep-seated connection to the area. He also revitalized an abandoned smokehouse that was left on the property, which allows him to serve up slow cooked meats. Lucky for us, the best meal around here is Butterfield, Hasbrouck House’s on-site restaurant.
The Grand Suite on the 2nd floor of the Carriage House is the biggest accommodation on the property - a 3-bedroom suite complete with two full bathrooms, and large living room. Just as magical as the building itself are the 55 wooded acres that the four-building compound sits on, plus the neighboring apple orchard and pond. With a light dusting of snow, Hasbrouck House feels especially cozy, with its layers on layers of rich texture, a stone fireplace, heated bathroom floors, Aesop toiletries, and luxurious Frette bed linens and robes. Bundle up and borrow snowshoes for a short hike to a frozen pond, then book a massage or private yoga session in the wellness room.
"It creates a great subject matter ... It's this overwhelming experience, but once you find your space, you're tucked into it." The club room pictured here, for example, is filled with eclectic vignettes and vintage-inspired wallpaper. Hudson Valley's Hasbrouck House feels more like a home away from home than a hotel. Reservations for Butterfield can be made directly on the Butterfield Website or with special arrangements from our guest services team.

When principal Dan Brunn purchased the property, his initial plan had been to renovate the existing home. The seeds of Bridge House were sown, however, when he visited the Breakers in Newport, Rhode Island. Though the Italian Renaissance-style mansion that was the Vanderbilt family’s summer retreat is a far cry from the modern profile of Bridge House, it sparked an idea for Brunn.
Situated on 50 park-like acres, there is so much to do right on-site at Hasbrouck House. The property features a groomed walking trail and a private lake with a dock – a great hidden hangout from the rest of the hotel. Dan Brunn, FAIA, Principal of Dan Brunn Architecture is designing a one-of-a kind “bridge house,” that will, literally, bridge over a stream. The 4,500-square-foot home will serve as a demonstration of innovative systems and forward-thinking processes. The design exemplifies Brunn’s signature minimalist aesthetic evident in dynamic spatial choreography of light and volume. Butterfield is a true farm-to-table dining experience, as the restaurant sources its ingredients from local Hudson Valley farmers.
